Horse Island Research Station
Branford, CT
The Horse Island Research Station is a collaboration between GOA and Yale School of Architecture to build a new Coastal Research Station for the Yale Peabody Museum of Natural History. The goal of the off-grid station was to enable uses that were not possible before as well as to preserve the delicate ecosystems of Horse Island. The new station allows both Yale and the Museum to host a wide variety of visitors on the island by providing covered, secure spaces in case of inclement weather, secure storage and sleeping facilities for visiting researchers, and off-grid water, energy, and heat systems that operate with minimal maintenance.
